Blackberries and Limes

It started simple—I had a lemon tree give to me by a friend that turned out to be a lime tree. A very prolific lime tree at that. Six limes, a handful of blackberries from a local farm, and a bottle of lime sparkling water later, I was feeling like the garden had handed me a recipe and a challenge all at once.

It wasn’t a bougie mocktail - it was a moment that comes when you realize that you pieced together something good from things already around you. Lime from the backyard, berries from the farmers’ market and a cheap bottle of sparkling water. Nothing fancy. Just fresh, local, and easy to toss together on a hot Texas afternoon.

I was surprised at how much flavor came through, how each ingredient showed up fully—thanks to how and where it was grown. That’s the part I want to share—when you tune into what’s fresh, what’s nearby, and what’s in season, you get more than just taste. You get connection. To your soil, your growers, and your choices.

Quick Sip Recipe: Six backyard limes, a handful of local blackberries, and one bottle of lime sparkling water. Muddle the fruit, pour over ice, top with fizz. Done. Tart, juicy, and full of summer.
