I’m Maggie - a garden educator, storyteller and advocate for native Texas landscapes. My path weaves together anthropology/horticulture, hands-on nursery leadership, and a deep-rooted passion for ecological connection. I believe that gardening isn’t just about plants — it’s about relationships with place, with community, and with the rhythms of the natural world.

Dragon and Thistle is my digital garden, where ideas are sown, lessons bloom, and the Texas landscape serves as muse and teacher. Whether you’re a seasoned grower, a curious beginner, or an educator seeking inspiration, you'll find resources rooted in ecology, culture, and hands-on experience. From designing medicinal gardens to decoding soil health to filming outdoor mini-lessons, this space nurtures a community of gardeners and learners who believe that real growth reaches far beyond the roots.

This blog also carries the legacy of two fierce grandmothers—one Welsh, one Scottish—whose stories still linger in the leaves. The thistle reminds me to stand my ground with boldness. The dragon guards the garden with fire and wisdom. I love them both fiercely, and while I don’t walk exactly in their footsteps, I plant with intention, speak with care, and hope each word and seed I tend would make them proud.

“A good Texas garden doesn’t rush — it listens to the wind, watches the sun, and waits for the right bloom”
