A Long Time Past
It’s been too long. Far too long. My last post was back on February 3rd and while I never intended to take such a siesta on blogging, I’m ecstatic with everything that has unfolded in the meantime.
College classes geared back up and my permaculture design and medicinal plants classes had coursework that kept me happily hopping. Medicinal plants and landscape design are two of my favorites - I love stretching my skills and figuring out how to make it all work in my Central Texas world.
February also brought me back into the actual classroom - this time at my local community college, teaching another gardening course in the Adult Education Department. I adore those classes. Every time I walk through the door, I’m reminded that teaching (and gardening!) is a two-way street and I learn just as much from my students as they do from me!
Right now I am a few days away from Spring Semester and ready to jump back in to landscape design via sustainability. Dusting off my AutoCAD skills. Actually, ‘resurrecting my AutoCAD skills’ would be more appropriate. I think I remember downloading AutoCAD98 the last time I used it. Oof!
I’m neither picky nor proud so I ordered a book for help and am working my way through. I will say that my old version of the drafting device is more along the lines of Google Sheets compared to today’s model.
Outside, all of my garden beds were given an overhaul of soil/compost this early Spring and I am planning on trying new veggies and herbs this season. Amazingly enough, my mugwort that I thought had died in the last freeze has made a comeback, as well as the echinacea, mexican mint marigold, rosemary and society garlic.
Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, broccoli, spinach, mesclun mix and herbs are all in and growing fast. Looking for zucchini and crookneck squash this weekend.
